How to Properly Seal Marble

Step 1: Prep the Surface

Before sealing, make sure your marble is free of stains and etches (those dull spots). If you notice any, treat them first:

  • Stains: Use a poultice powder to draw out the stain from the stone.
  • Etches (dull spots): Use an etch remover kit to bring the marble back to its original polished state.

You want to start with a clean, restored surface before any sealer goes down.

Step 2: Let the Marble Dry Completely

This step is critical — and it's a great excuse to get out of the house. Let the marble dry for 24–48 hours. Go out to dinner a couple of times... wait, not so we don't have to cook! 😄 The drier the stone, the better the sealer will penetrate and bond.

Step 3: Apply the Sealer

Pour Tenax Proseal Nano directly onto the marble surface. Spread it evenly using a stir stick or a small paper towel saturated with sealer.

Let the sealer sit on the surface for at least 5 minutes. Watch the surface — if the sealer absorbs into the stone quickly, apply more. You want to see sealer standing on the surface, not soaking in. Depending on how porous your marble is, this may take 2 or 3 applications to fully saturate the stone.

Step 4: Wipe Off the Excess

Once the sealer has had time to penetrate, wipe the surface clean. This is important — you do not want sealer sitting on top of the stone. It can become sticky and hazy if left behind.

If you notice any stickiness after wiping, don't panic. Simply apply a little more sealer, let it sit for 5 minutes to re-emulsify the residue, then wipe it all off again. It should come right up.

Step 5: Let It Cure Overnight

Allow the sealed marble to cure for 12–24 hours before putting it back into use. After that, you're good to go — your marble is protected and ready for everyday life.
