One of the most common questions we get: "Which continuous rim dry-cut blade is best for 3/8" porcelain, and will it fit my grinder with a 5/8" arbor?" Here's the full answer.

It's the workhorse blade — reliable, clean, and built for production use on standard porcelain thicknesses.

- Best for: Precision cuts, minimal chipping, rectified porcelain
The Arbor Issue: 5/8" vs 7/8" — What You Need to Know
All full-size Distar blades use a 22.23mm (7/8") arbor. A 5/8" arbor measures 15.875mm — that's a significant difference. A blade with a 7/8" bore will not sit flush on a 5/8" spindle and should never be forced.
But First — Double-Check Your Grinder
This is the most common source of confusion: most standard angle grinders from DeWalt, Makita, and Milwaukee use a 7/8" arbor. What you may be reading is the spindle thread size — typically 5/8"-11 (meaning 5/8" diameter, 11 threads per inch). That's the thread spec, not the arbor bore size. They are not the same thing.
Check your grinder's manual or the spindle itself. Chances are your flange arbor is already 7/8" and the blade will fit perfectly.
Quick Reference
| Blade | Kerf | Style | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Distar Perfect | 1.5mm | Dry, Continuous Rim | Everyday porcelain cutting |
| Distar Esthete 2.0 | 1.1mm | Dry, Ultra-Thin Rim | Precision / rectified tile |
All Distar blades use a 7/8" (22.23mm) arbor. Use a reducer bushing if your grinder has a true 5/8" arbor.
