Backup pads are the interface between your angle grinder and your polishing pads — they provide the cushioned backing that allows diamond pads to flex on stone surfaces, and the hook & loop or snail-lock surface that connects the consumable pad to the drive. A worn backup pad produces uneven results regardless of pad quality.

Pro Tool Haus carries hook & loop backup pads in 4", 5", and 7" diameters, snail-lock backer pads for polishing machine configurations, rigid metal backer pads for cup wheels and grinding discs, and foam backing pads for fine polishing work. All specified by thread size and diameter for grinder compatibility.
