Description

Solid carbide performance in the smallest sizes. The Proxxon solid tungsten carbide milling cutter set provides three double-flute end mills in 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0mm diameters — the size range where solid carbide's hardness and rigidity matter most. The fishtail (flat-bottom) profile cuts to center, enabling both peripheral milling and plunge boring in the same operation. All three cutters run clockwise and share a common 3.0mm (7/64") shank for compatibility with the Micromot collet system.

What's Included

  • 1.0mm (1/32") double-flute solid carbide end mill
  • 2.0mm (5/64") double-flute solid carbide end mill
  • 3.0mm (7/64") double-flute solid carbide end mill
  • Shank diameter (all three): 3.0mm (7/64")

Solid Carbide vs. HSS Milling Cutters — Which Do You Need?

  • Solid carbide (No. 27116) — this set: Harder and more rigid than HSS — essential for cutting hardened steel, cast iron, glass, and CFRP where HSS would wear rapidly. Best for small diameters (1–3mm) where rigidity prevents deflection and breakage.
  • HSS Milling Cutter Set (No. 24610): For general milling in aluminum, brass, and mild steel. Lower cost, easier to resharpen, better for larger diameters.
  • HSS Milling Cutter Set 6–10mm (No. 24620): Larger diameter HSS cutters for heavier milling passes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a fishtail profile?
A fishtail (or flat-bottom) end mill has cutting edges that extend to the center of the tool — unlike a standard end mill with a center relief. This allows the cutter to plunge straight down into the material for boring operations, in addition to standard peripheral milling.

Are these compatible with the MF 70 and FF 230?
Yes — the 3.0mm shank is compatible with the Micromot collet system used in the MF 70 and the FF 230. Use the appropriate 3.0mm collet.

Can these cut carbon fiber (CFRP)?
Yes — solid tungsten carbide is one of the few tool materials that can cut CFRP effectively without rapid wear. The hardness of carbide resists the abrasive nature of carbon fiber fibers.
