Description
Remove Stains & Etch Marks from Marble Caused by Acidic Liquids
The Lustro Italiano Marble Stain & Etch Remover Kit addresses a specific and common marble problem: damage from acidic liquids that both etch and stain the surface simultaneously. When a colored acidic liquid — wine, coffee, citrus juice, tomato — contacts marble, it creates two separate issues: an etch mark (dull spot from the acid reacting with the calcium carbonate) and a stain (color left behind in the stone's pores). Standard cleaners address neither. This kit addresses both.
Includes stain remover poultice to draw the color out of the stone, and etch remover powder to restore the polish in the dulled area — plus cleaner and polish spray for the full maintenance routine.
Note: For rust stains, use the Lustro Italiano Marble Rust Remover & Restoration Kit instead — rust requires a different chelate-based treatment approach.
What's Included
- Lustro Italiano Natural Stone Cleaner (32 oz) — clean the surface before and after treatment
- Lustro Italiano Stain Remover Poultice Powder (8 oz) — draws organic stains (wine, coffee, oil, food color) out of marble pores through poultice action
- Lustro Italiano Etch & Water Mark Remover Powder (8 oz) — restores the polish in areas dulled by acid etching; use after stain removal to address the etch mark
- Lustro Italiano Stone Polish & Sealer Spray (11 oz aerosol) — restore shine and replenish sealer after treatment
The Stain + Etch Restoration Sequence
- Clean the surface with Natural Stone Cleaner and allow to dry.
- Remove the stain: Mix Stain Remover Poultice Powder with water to a paste, apply over the stained area, cover with plastic wrap (poke holes), and wait 24–48 hours. Remove the dried poultice — the stain comes with it.
- Restore the polish: Apply Etch & Water Mark Remover Powder to the dulled area and rub by hand with a soft cloth for approximately 3 minutes until the polish is restored.
- Maintain: Use Stone Polish & Sealer Spray to restore shine and replenish the sealer layer.
Note: If the stone is unsealed or lightly sealed, consider resealing with Lustro Italiano Stone Sealer after treatment to prevent future staining.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between a stain and an etch mark on marble?
An etch mark is a dull spot caused by acid chemically reacting with the calcium carbonate in marble — it's surface damage to the polish, not a discoloration. A stain is color that has penetrated into the stone's pores. Colored acidic liquids (wine, coffee, citrus) can cause both simultaneously — which is why this kit includes both a stain remover and an etch remover.
Do I need to treat the stain or the etch first?
Treat the stain first with the poultice powder, then address the etch mark with the etch remover powder. Removing the stain first ensures the etch remover is working on a clean surface.
Does this kit include a sealer?
No — this kit focuses on stain and etch removal plus maintenance. For full resealing after treatment, add Lustro Italiano Stone Sealer, or choose the Marble Stain & Etch Remover Restoration Kit which includes the sealer.
Can I use this kit on travertine or limestone?
Yes — both the stain remover and etch remover are safe for marble, travertine, limestone, and other calcium-based stones.
What if I only have an etch mark with no stain?
Use Lustro Italiano Etch & Water Mark Remover Powder on its own — no need for the full kit if there's no staining component.
